Monti Doongri templeAccording to the senior citizens and priests of the temple, the king of Mewar was carrying this huge idol of Lord Ganesh ji in a bullock cart. He was supposed to build a temple at the site wherever the bullock cart stops the first time. And then the cart stopped close to Moti Dungri and the temple was built there. A business man known as Seth Jai Ram Paliwal took the supervision of the temple construction under the guidance of the chief priest Shiv Narain ji.

The Moti Doongri Temple, Jaipur is popular for its marvelous location and exquisite architecture that surprises every visitor. This temple has been built in accordance with a Scottish castle and is really a marvel of architecture. Today this hilltop fort is the residence of Rajmata (Queen Mother) Gayatri Devi. In the past, the place was a small fortress called Shankargarh (Shiva’s Foot) but was later changed by Sawai Man Singh II on the conception of a Scottish castle. It became the venue for his innumerable parties attended by the top socialites of his times afterwards. A beautiful Palace is also constructed close to the temple on the hill which is known as Moti Dungri Palace. The Palace is modeled as a Scottish Castle. It was occupied by Maharaja Madho Singh’s son and the Palace still belongs to the royal family and is not open for public. Rajmata Gayatri Devi and her son, Jagat Singh was living in this palace till recently.
